Former Germany manager Joachim Low reportedly emerges as a late contender to become the next head coach of Paris Saint-Germain.

Joachim Low has reportedly emerged as a surprise contender for the Paris Saint-Germain job, which may become vacant in the coming days.

Mauricio Pochettino is the current incumbent, the Argentine winning 55 of his 84 matches and guiding the club to another Ligue 1 trophy during 2021-22.

However, that is far below what was expected of the former Tottenham Hotspur boss, the powers-that-be at Parc des Princes disappointed with the team's last-16 capitulation against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Although Pochettino has one year left on his contract, he is expected to depart his position in the near future, freeing up space for PSG to appoint a replacement.

Despite speculation regarding Jose Mourinho, Nice boss Christophe Galtier has been the clear favourite in recent days, discussions between the relevant parties said to be ongoing.

However, according to Bild, the PSG hierarchy have not ruled out the appointment of Low, who has been out of a job since leaving Germany after Euro 2020 last year.

The 62-year-old enjoyed one of the longest international reigns of the modern era, taking charge of 198 matches over a 15-year period and winning the 2014 World Cup.

Low's last experience with a club ended all the way back in 2004, his spell with Austria Vienna reaching a conclusion after just 32 matches, 16 of which were victories.

The report adds that Low is now ready to take on a new challenge, implying that an opportunity to take on the challenge of managing PSG would be too good to turn down.

As recently as last month, Low made comments on his future, saying: "The will is there. I would like to coach a club again. That would be fun for me.

"There were some approaches and one or two offers that I will study during the next weeks. I haven't made any decisions yet."

Preceding any change in manager is the appointment of a new sporting director, the French giants having parted ways with Leonardo.

Luis Campos - who has previously worked at Monaco and Lille - is due to start work at PSG on Friday, a development which could act as the catalyst for more over the coming days.

The 57-year-old is no stranger to star man Kylian Mbappe, who has just turned down the advances of Real Madrid to commit his future to the top-flight champions.
