Neymar will remain absent for Paris Saint-Germain's midweek trip to Strasbourg in the Coupe de la Ligue, having been granted permission to return to Brazil.

Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery has revealed that Neymar will not be part of his squad to face Strasbourg in the Coupe de la Ligue due to an 'important family issue'.

The Brazil international returned to his homeland last weekend after being granted time off, having already been ruled out of the 3-1 victory over Lille through suspension.

Emery has confirmed that Neymar will also play no part against Strasbourg at the Stade de la Meinau on Wednesday evening, but would not reveal the full reasons behind the £198m world-record signing's ongoing absence.

"He called me on Saturday morning to tell me he had an important thing in his family and asked me if the club and I agreed to let him go to Brazil," he told reporters.

"It was important for him. The human element is important, sometimes the work goes into the background."

Neymar's long-term future at the Parc des Princes appears uncertain, with claims that a move to Real Madrid is on the cards at the end of next season.
