Serge Aurier to be investigated by FIFA over 'throat-slit gesture'

FIFA opens an investigation into PSG and Ivory Coast defender Serge Aurier after he appeared to making a throat-slitting gesture towards supporters.

FIFA has announced that it is investigating Paris Saint-Germain full-back Serge Aurier after he appeared to make a throat-slitting gesture towards supporters.

The 23-year-old made the gesture while celebrating a goal for Ivory Coast during their 2018 World Cup qualifier with Mali.

Aurier was also credited with saving the life of Moussa Doumbia in the same match after the Mali forward was knocked unconscious in a challenge with Sunderland's Lamine Kone.

Aurier intervened to stop Doumbia from swallowing his tongue, earning praise from Mali boss Alain Giresse after the game.

However, FIFA's investigation is the latest in a growing list of controversies involving the defender, who was last month sentenced to two months in jail for assaulting a police officer.

Aurier was also suspended by PSG in February after allegedly using homophobic language to abuse then-manager Laurent Blanc, in addition to criticising teammates Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Angel di Maria.
