FA 'consider choosing Rio Ferdinand to stand for FIFA vice presidential role'

The FA reportedly considers choosing Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand for Britain's FIFA vice presidential role.

The Football Association has reportedly targeted Queens Park Rangers defender Rio Ferdinand to run for Britain's FIFA vice presidential position.

The English governing body is planning to appoint a representative, but FA vice chairman David Gill has ruled himself out, leaving a number of options open.

According to PA, Ferdinand, who left Manchester United after a 12-year spell in the summer, is being considered, as are Graeme Le Saux, Paul Elliott and David James.

Should Ferdinand be chosen, the centre-back will stand for election in March next year against candidates picked by the Scottish and Welsh associations.
