Queens Park Rangers manager Neil Warnock believes that captain Joey Barton has ‘no chance’ of getting into Fabio Capello’s England squad.
The 29-year-old, who has one international cap to his name, has made an impact at Loftus Road since he moved from Newcastle on a free transfer in the summer.
Despite the midfielder’s optimism about returning to the national side, Warnock believes that the Liverpool-born player won’t be picked as long as Fabio Capello is manager.
“Any player that's playing well enough I think in the circumstances you'd be foolish not to pick them [for England],” Warnock said in a press conference.
"I'm sure if it's an English manager they'll consider everybody. I don't think Joey Barton's got a cat in hell's chance of getting in England's team at the moment, not until Capello leaves.”
The last time Barton was picked to feature for the Three Lions was in 2007.
