English winger Paul Ifill claims that he was racially abused during a match in Australia over the weekend.

Former Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace winger Paul Ifill has accused supporters of racially abusing him during an A-League encounter this weekend.

The 33-year-old, who currently plays for Wellington Phoenix, is said to have been the subject of a racial term during his side's 3-1 defeat to Adelaide United.

"Bad times poor result and racist abuse from a very small minority of fans," Ifill wrote on the social networking site Twitter after the match.

Adelaide have since made it known that they are aware of the allegation and will open up an investigation.

Ifill joined the Phoenix in 2009 following two years with Palace.
