Ally McCoist has claimed that job cuts at Rangers are "not inevitable" following the club's fall into administration.

Administrators Paul Clark and David Whitehouse stated that players and staff within the SPL champions could be axed from the club after London firm Duff and Phelps took charge of the club last week.

"One of the things the administrators have said is that cuts, people losing their jobs, isn't inevitable," said McCoist.

"They have said it's a possibility but it's not inevitable. That in itself I would find encouraging.

"That's not to say that it won't happen but I think it gives everybody hope. In the grand scheme of things that is one of, if not the, most important things."

The Glasgow-based club took an automatic ten-point deduction following their drop into administration, but matters in the league were made worse after they stumbled to a 1-0 defeat to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
