Ally McCoist keen to keep Rangers squad together

Ally McCoist says that Rangers do not need to sell players as they seek promotion from Scottish League One.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist has said that he is keen to keep his current squad together in a bid to get out of the Scottish League One at the first attempt.

Gers chief executive Graham Wallace recently hinted that the Glasgow club may have to make sacrifices to the squad as they look to clash the wage bill at Ibrox.

However, McCoist said that he has been reassured that any cost-cutting measures will not affect his promotion objectives.

"We've had primary discussions at great length," Sky Sports News quotes the 51-year-old as saying. "We met on Tuesday for a good few hours and we spoke on the phone on Wednesday and Thursday.

"I have not been told I need to sell players and I know Graham is aware of the importance of keeping the squad together. This squad have been nothing short of fantastic this season and we are absolutely thrilled and delighted with them.

"But the most important thing is that we get out the division we are in and Graham knows, as much as anyone, how important it is to try to build and continue to strengthen the squad."

Rangers are 17 points clear at the top of the league.
