Kenny McDowall struggling to enjoy Rangers role

Caretaker manager Kenny McDowall admits that he is struggling to enjoy the role with Rangers.

Kenny McDowall has admitted that he is struggling to enjoy his stint as caretaker manager at Rangers.

McDowall has been in charge of the side since Ally McCoist was put on gardening leave when he confirmed he would be serving his 12-month notice period, and he claims that he would prefer to still be working alongside his colleague.

"I'm trying to enjoy it but there's a lot to take on board," the 51-year-old, who is also serving his notice, told reporters. "What I have got to try and do is get the team winning football matches. When I'm doing that, I'm enjoying it.

"It's not easy, I wouldn't sit here and lie to you, but we have got to do the best we can do. We need to get promotion this year and get Rangers back into the top league."

When asked whether he would prefer to have taken on the role at a different time, McDowall added: "Not particularly because I came here with Walter Smith and I was very fortunate to be asked to be Ally's assistant. I would much rather Ally was sitting here and not me, to be honest with you."

Rangers are currently third in the Scottish Championship, 22 points behind leaders Hearts.
