Roy Hodgson issues warning to Steven Gerrard over Rangers

Roy Hodgson offers advice to Steven Gerrard amid reports that the former Liverpool midfielder is about to be named as the next Rangers manager.

Roy Hodgson has warned Steve Gerrard that he must do his homework on Rangers before accepting a job offer from the Ibrox outfit.

The Crystal Palace boss, who coached Gerrard at Liverpool, advised the Reds legend to do his "due diligence" with regard to the vacant managerial post before agreeing to fill it.

"The tip I would give is to make certain you do your due diligence with regards to the job before you decide to take it," Hodgson told talkSPORT.

"You have to feel confident it's a job which will give you the opportunity to use the undoubted ability a person like Steven Gerrard has.

"There are certain players I've worked with who I've had no doubt they would make good managers and head coaches when the day comes they want to take the plunge and commit themselves to that job.

"Stevie has done an apprenticeship by working with the youth team at Liverpool but I wouldn't give him any other advice other than to do the due diligence and if he thinks it's the right job, to make certain he believes in himself, like I would certainly believe in him."

The latest reports suggest that Gerrard could be installed as the next Rangers manager by the end of the week following "positive talks" with the club.
