Nigel Adkins: 'I'm the right man for Reading'

Nigel Adkins insists that he is the right man to manage Reading, despite their 6-1 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has insisted that he is the right man to lead the club, despite their 6-1 defeat to Birmingham City on Saturday.

The result leaves the Royals languishing in 16th position in the Championship table, 10 points adrift of the playoff places.

Adkins has come under fire from some sections of the Reading support after just three wins from their last 15 games, but the former Southampton boss has vowed to turn the team's fortunes around.

"Believe you me, I've a very proud man and I hate losing," he told the Reading Chronicle.

"I'm taking the emotion away from maybe saying something I will regret, because I think that's sensible because I have to pick the guys up and go again.

"I've also got to pick the club up, I think that's important. Like I say I'm very proud in what I do and I think that's the best angle for me to take on it right now."

Reading host Watford on Saturday.
