Reading ease past Doncaster Rovers

Reading score four as they ease past Doncaster Rovers at the Madejski Stadium.

Reading eased past Doncaster Rovers with a 4-1 win at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

First-half goals from Danny Guthrie and Adam Le Fondre with Theo Robinson equalising in between put the home side in a commanding position, before Garath McCleary and Pavel Pogrebnyak sealed the win late in the second half.

The home side started on the front foot with Jordan Obita and McCleary both having early shots from range.

Reading did not have to wait long to take the lead as Guthrie scored from the edge of the box with a right-footed effort that flew into the top corner, after being teed up by Pogrebnyak.

Moments later Obita forced Doncaster's Ross Turnbull into a save from close range after the cut-back from Adam Le Fondre.

Doncaster drew level when Mark Duffy's free kick was saved by Adam Federici but substitute Robinson, who earlier replaced Dean Furman, pounced to equalise.

Reading re-took the lead five minutes before half time when Le Fondre coolly finished after a McCleary run and pass.

The home side pressed to double their advatage and Pogrebnyak almost did when he exchanged passes with McCleary but could only fire into the side netting.

Jobi McAnuff came on in place of Obita and almost made an instant impact but his shot was well blocked by Bongani Khumalo.

Doncaster's Rob Jones had to come off injured after landing awkwardly but the away side had made all three changes and had to play the last 15 minutes with ten men.

McCleary then gave Reading a two-goal cushion and effectively sealed the match when he connected perfectly with substitute Hal Robson-Kanu's cross after the winger had earlier replaced Le Fondre.

Pogrebnyak compounded Rovers' misery by adding a fourth in injury time.
