Reading have completed the signing of defender Kaspars Gorkss from Queens Park Rangers for an undisclosed fee.
The 29-year-old Latvian helped QPR to achieve promotion to the Premier League last season but has been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Neil Warnock.
Gorkss has revealed that he joined the Royals ahead of other clubs in the hope of making a swift return to the top flight.
"It's very good to be here, I'm looking forward and I am very glad that I've joined this club, I can't wait to get to work," he told the club's official website.
"Hopefully I will bring some experience, hopefully some banter too, but I doubt it! A little leadership, a little bit of everything maybe!
"Obviously my goal is to get back to the Premiership again and hopefully I can help Reading achieve that goal."
Gorkss has signed a three-year contract at the Madejski Stadium.
