Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale cuts socks in bid to avoid injury

Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale reportedly cuts holes in his socks to relieve pressure on his calves, which have troubled him regularly this season.

Real Madrid star Gareth Bale has adopted the unusual strategy of cutting holes in his socks as he looks to avoid picking up another calf injury.

The Welsh forward has struggled with multiple calf problems this season, playing in just 16 of Real's 28 La Liga matches.

He returned from his latest setback in Saturday's 7-1 mauling of Celta Vigo and had two holes visible in his socks.

According to the Daily Mail, it is to relieve pressure on the area where Bale has had problems this season.

When fit, Bale has been in good form this year, scoring 14 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions.
