Real Madrid manager Santiago Solari has responded to rumours that former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is set to replace him at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Mourinho, who had a three-year spell at Madrid in 2010, has been tipped to replace Solari following his side's exit from the Champions League and their position of third in La Liga.

When Solari was asked for a response to the rumours during a recent press conference, he refused to comment on his future or any potential replacements at the club.

"I can't answer hypothetical questions," Solari told reporters.

"It's an honour to serve this club. I will always do my best, as I have done since my first day here. Our focus must only be on the next game. It's a tough moment, a difficult moment. You can keep doing your job, I will keep doing mine.

"It's not easy for the fans, we're a club that is used to winning, we've been through a glorious period and after being knocked out there is sadness of course, but also applause at what we have been achieved. We do a lot of self-criticism. In the dressing room self-criticism is a constant thing, not just something you do after a defeat."

Madrid currently sit 15 points behind league leaders Barcelona, with Atletico Madrid also eight points clear of Solari's side.
