Lazio have looked into the possibility of signing former Real Madrid defender Marcelo on a free transfer this summer, according to a report.
The 34-year-old remains without a club since leaving Los Blancos upon the expiration of his contract on June 30, which brought an end to his 15-and-a-half-year spell with the club.
Several interested parties have been in contact with the Brazilian over a move ahead of the 2022-23 campaign, but no move has yet materialised.
However, that could be about to change according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, who are reporting that the Serie A outfit are tempted by a move for the full-back.
The report suggests that Marcelo's wage demands are currently a stumbling block as things stand, but that the possibility of a move remains open.
Should he make the move to the Stadio Olimpico, Marcelo would be linking up with former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, who oversaw a fifth-placed finish in Serie A at Lazio last season.
During his lengthy spell at the Santiago Bernabeu, Marcelo went on to win six La Liga titles, five Champions Leagues and two Copa del Reys among his total of 25 trophies, featuring in 546 matches for the club across all competitions in the process.
