Real Madrid plot January Ricardo Rodriguez swoop?

A report in Spain claims that Real Madrid are hoping to sign Ricardo Rodriguez, although the Wolfsburg left-back would prefer to play for Barcelona.

Real Madrid have reportedly made Ricardo Rodriguez one of their major January transfer targets.

It is believed that head coach Rafael Benitez has requested a new left-back to provide competition for Marcelo.

Wolfsburg's Rodriguez is Benitez's preferred option, with a bid for the 23-year-old potentially being submitted over the coming days, according to Sport.

However, the report claims that were Rodriguez ever to make a move to Spain, he would prefer to play for Real's main rivals Barcelona.

The Switzerland international only recently extended his contract with his Bundesliga employers until the summer of 2019.
