Luka Modric backs Gareth Bale for Real Madrid

Luka Modric admits that Gareth Bale would make Real Madrid a better team.

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has admitted that Gareth Bale would improve the team should the Welshman sign for the club.

The club's president Florentino Perez recently admitted that he would be prepared to pay big money for Bale, but Tottenham are expected to do everything possible not to part with the winger.

"It is a complicated issue for me because I was at Tottenham with him," he told Marca. "I can tell you that we're friends and that he is an exceptional player.

"A club like Real Madrid, Tottenham or anyone else can only benefit from having a player like that. As Real Madrid is a team of stars, Bale would fit perfectly. He would give us a different dimension.

"If he signs or not is a matter for the clubs, but if he ends up at Real Madrid that can only be good for us."

Bale has scored 42 Premier League goals for Spurs since joining them from Southampton in 2007.
