Rayo Vallecano defender Fran Garcia is set to re-join Real Madrid this summer on a five-year contract, according to a report.

Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of concluding a deal for Fran Garcia, with the Spaniard set to return to Bernabeu from Rayo Vallecano.

The 23-year-old came through the youth system at Real Madrid but largely represented their B side between 2018 and 2020, only making one first-team appearance for the capital giants.

A successful loan spell at Rayo during the 2020-21 campaign led to Garcia joining the club on a permanent basis in the summer of 2021.

Garcia has been a key player for Los Franjirrojos over the last three seasons, including this term, featuring on 23 occasions for Andoni Iraola's side, contributing two assists in the process.

The former Spain Under-21s international has a contract with Rayo until June 2025, but according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, he is heading back to Bernabeu this summer.

Romano claims that the 'documents are ready', with Real Madrid preparing to trigger a buy-back clause of €10m (£8.9m) which was included in the initial sale.

However, the Spanish and European champions will only need to pay €5m (£4.5m) due to a 50% sell-on clause.

The journalist adds that Garcia will sign a five-year contract with Carlo Ancelotti's side, who are in need of reinforcements at left-back.

Ferland Mendy and David Alaba have both spent time on the sidelines this season, with the former still recovering from injury, which has led to Eduardo Camavinga being used as a left-back.

Garcia has played as a left-back for Rayo this season, although he is also capable of operating as a left midfielder or left-sided wing-back.

In total, the defender has made 105 appearances for his current team, contributing three goals and eight assists in the process, with 55 of those outings coming in La Liga.

Garcia has played a leading role in Rayo's excellent campaign to date, with Iraola's team currently sitting sixth in the La Liga table, five points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid, meanwhile, recorded a 4-0 win over Elche on Wednesday evening to move to within eight points of division leaders Barcelona.

Ancelotti's side would cut the gap to five points with a victory over Osasuna on Saturday, as Barcelona are not in action until Sunday due to their involvement in the Europa League.
