Robbie Keane has been ruled out of Republic of Ireland's match with Germany through injury.
The Irish captain received a kick to his Achilles during Wednesday's training session and he will now miss their World Cup qualifying match on Friday evening.
However, the Republic of Ireland medical staff are hopeful that the 32-year-old will be able to play some part in the game with the Faroe Islands on Tuesday.
The injury to Keane is a further blow to manager Giovanni Trapattoni after as many as six players had already been forced out of the squad.
Keane has scored 54 goals in 121 appearances for his country.
