Neil Warnock leaves Rotherham United

Experienced manager Neil Warnock departs Rotherham United after helping the club survive in the Championship.

Neil Warnock has departed Rotherham United after helping the club survive in the Championship this season.

The 67-year-old replaced Neil Redfearn as first-team manager of the struggling Millers in February and managed to lead the club to a 21st-place finish in the Championship table, some nine points outside of the bottom three.

It had been thought that Warnock would extend his contract at the New York Stadium, but the two parties have gone in separate directions.

"Following lengthy and protracted discussions over the past two weeks, Rotherham United can confirm that Neil Warnock will not be the manager of the club going forward," read a statement on Rotherham's official website.

"We would like to place on record our thanks to Neil and his support staff for the 16 games that they led the team at the end of the 2015-2016 campaign, and wish Neil, Kevin [Blackwell] and Ronnie [Jepson] health and happiness for the future. We will be looking to release details of a new managerial appointment in due course."

Warnock started his managerial career with Gainsborough Trinity in 1980 and has since taken charge of the likes of Sheffield United, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Leeds United in the English game.
