Scotland relishing taking on world champions Germany in September

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee insists that they are "excited" to test themselves against newly-crowned world champions Germany in September.

Scotland assistant manager Mark McGhee has insisted that they are "excited" to test themselves against newly-crowned world champions Germany this autumn.

The Scots open their 2016 European Championship qualifying campaign against the Germans, who won their fourth World Cup by beating Argentina on Sunday.

However, rather than be daunted by the prospect of taking on the world's best in Dortmund on September 7, McGhee expects that Scotland will thrive in the big-match atmosphere and hold their own against Joachim Low's side.

"It's fantastic, you want to play against these teams. It's great and we're all excited about it," he told reporters.

"We knew when the draw was made that was going to be the most difficult game for us, but there will be a sort of party atmosphere and to be there and experience that will be great for the supporters.

"We're going there to make life as difficult as we can for Germany, regardless of the fact they're world champions, and we hope to come up with a plan and a strategy that will give us a chance of getting something."

McGhee, who played for German club Hamburg in 1984, was named Gordon Strachan's number two in 2013.
