Good evening! It's an hour until kickoff in the Champions League match between Belarusian champions BATE Borisov and Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk. The teams have already been announced, so let's start with a look at the sides...

Denis Polyakov and Aleksandr Karnitski retain their places in BATE's starting lineup after scoring against Bilbao last time out. Meanwhile, Alex Teixeira and Luiz Adriano lead the attack for the visitors.

Ahead of this evening's match, BATE coach Aleksandr Yermakovic told reporters: "Shakhtar Donetsk do not need any introduction, they are Champions League regulars. However, every team has some weak points, but I do not want to speak about Shakhtar's at the moment. We have our game plan and time will tell if we manage to put it into practice."

This will be the first time that these two sides have played a competitive match against each other. BATE played Donetsk's Ukraine rivals Dynamo Kyiv in the Europa League a couple of years ago, losing 6-3 over the two legs.

All four teams in Group H are pretty close after their first two matches. BATE are just a point behind leaders Porto, while Donetsk are just a point further back. Depending on the result of the match between the Portuguese side and Athletic Bilbao this evening, a win for either of these two sides tonight could be enough to put them at the top of the group.

Shakhtar are appearing in the group stages of the Champions League for the 10th time in their history. However, they have not been in great form away from home recently, having failed to win in their last six outings.

By contrast, BATE have been in superb form in recent weeks. Since their 6-0 thrashing by Porto in their first group game, the Belarus side have won four matches and drawn twice. BATE are unbeaten at home in any competition since September 2013.

Aleksandr Karnitski is the home side's top scorer so far this season. In the team's last five matches, the midfielder has found the back of the net six times.

In his pre-match press conference, Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu told reporters: "Everybody understands the importance of tomorrow's game. These matchday three and four fixtures against the same opponents usually define what teams continue to fight for qualification, while at least one side usually goes out. We know our opponents and have had some thorough analysis of them done. They are a serious team with a decent record in Europe and they have had some good results against strong opposition."

Donetsk have been in mixed form domestically so far this season. They beat Volyn 6-2 last week, but that was their first victory since knowing Poltava out of the Ukrainain cup in September.

REFEREE WATCH! Croatian referee Ivan Bebak will be taking charge of this evening's match. The 37-year-old has officiated for FIFA since 2003. This will be his 10th match in the Champions League.

Shakhtar have a strong history in Europe. Although they have not excelled in this competition recently, they did lift the UEFA Cup in 2009 before it changed format to become the Europa League.

PREDICTION! Before the players make their way out this evening, let's make a quick prediction. Shakhtar will start as favourites, but BATE's young squad in strong form should provide a stern test. If the home side can keep a clean sheet for the first half hour, they have a decent chance of getting a draw. I'm going for a 1-1 draw this evening.

Both sets of players are in the tunnel ready to make their way out for this evening's match. This is just the second Champions League match taking place at this ground, after BATE opened their new stadium in spring.

As with all Champions League matches, the competition's anthem fills the stadium before kickoff. It doesn't look like it's quite a sell out match for the Belarus champions, but there's plenty of noise coming from the home supporters.

KICKOFF! Shakhtar get the match underway.

CHANCE! BATE give away a free kick within seconds of the kickoff as Nemanja Tubic climbs all over Adrian while the pair battled for a high ball. Srna takes it and finds a gap through the wall, but his effort lacked power, leaving Sergey Chernik with a comfortable stop.

The visitors are continuing to enjoy the majority of the possession in the opening minutes of this tie, but they have not put the BATE defenders under pressure again following their early free kick.

BATE win the first corner of the match, but Gordeychuk's delivery goes behind before reaching his teammate's in the centre, preventing them from testing Pyatov.

CHANCE! BATE have really come to life in the last couple of minutes, and almost take the lead when Karnitski picks up a ball into the box, but his first touch is lacking, and he's left stretching to get the shot away, allowing Kucher to make the block. That's certainly got the Borisov crowd going though!

The hosts win a free kick around 30 yards out when Karnitski is brought down, but Volodko's delivery ends up in no-man's land, and is eventually cleared by Srna.

Against the run of play the visitors take the lead as Mladenovic loses possession to Taison just outside the Shakhtar box, leaving the midfielder to run the length of the pitch before pulling the ball back for Teixeira to coolly slot home the goal.

CHANCE! Shakhtar are immediately on the hunt for a second as they force a corner. Teieira curls it in towards Adriano, but his attempt to blast in from close range is held by Chernik.

The goal has given Shakhtar a boost, and they're looking to really put their hosts under pressure. Taison tries his look from range, but the shot is deflected behind for a corner.

CHANCE! BATE have a chance to get back on level terms as Pyatov is caught out of position by a sloppy back pass from Taison, leaving Volodko facing an open goal, but Srna rushes back to clear it off the line, injuring himself by colliding with the post in the process.

BATE have recovered well from going a goal behind and are starting to look the more dangerous of the two sides again. Karnitski tries a shot from outside the box, but he doesn't get his foot fully behind the ball, leaving Pyatov to comfortably gather it.

Mladenovic tries to set up a Borisov equaliser, running down the left flank before looking for Volodko with a cross, but Srna headed it clear. Signevich tries to fire it back it, but his shot goes wide.

Chernik brings down Teixeira following a quick break from the visitors.

BOOKING! The BATE goalkeeper goes in the book for the foul, and will miss their next group game as a result.

What a bitter blow for BATE, they've been by far the better side so far, but now find themselves two goals down after a careless error from their goalkeeper. The hosts gave the ball away in midfield, allowing Adriano to find Teixeira. With none of his defenders back to help out, Chernik rushes out to try and prevent the shot, but brings down the striker, giving away the spot kick. Adriano steps up the take it, and comfortably finds the bottom left corner.

CHANCE! Shakhtar are looking to end any hopes of a BATE comeback as quickly as possible as they immediately push for a third. Douglas Costa wins the ball on the edge of the box, but Chernik tips it wide.

The visitors have a free kick in a promising position after Khagush clatters into Costa, but Taison cannot test Chernik with his effort from the set piece.

PENALTY APPEAL! The visitors want a second spot kick as Chernik collides with Teixeira again, but this time the referee judges it to be a fair tackle.

The wheels appear to have fallen off for BATE as Shakhtar make it three with 10 minutes still to go in the first half. BATE have a corner down the other end, but a poor delivery from Gordeychuk is swiftly cleared to Taison, who runs at Chernik. The midfielder could have taken the shot on himself, but he selflessly crossed it for Costa, leaving his teammate for a simple finish.

Luiz Adriano scores his second goal in the space of 10 minutes, adding a tap in at the near post following a quick break from Yaroslav Ratiskiy straight from the restart. This is really getting quite embarrassing for Borisov.

CHANCE! BATE try to restore some pride with an opportunity down the other end. After winning a corner, Volodko fires the ball in towards Karnitski, but his left-footed finish flies well wide.

Shakhtar Donetsk's record goal scorer completes his hat-trick within 15 minutes of his first goal. Tubic has a chance to clear a Costa cross, but his touch is poor and he backheels it into the path of Adriano, who pounces from just a couple of yards out for his third of the night.

CHANCE! Well BATE haven't given up, as Khagush carves out some space in the box before unleashing a powerful strike, but his finish lacks accuracy and fails to trouble Pyatov.

Yet more shocking defending from the home side gives Adriano his fourth goal of the evening, and leaves the Ukrainians in line for their biggest ever Champions League win. Shevchuk sends the ball in for Adriano, but Chernik has the chance to clear. The keeper spills it though, and Adriano pounces on the rebound.

The referee shows mercy, letting BATE head into the break without facing any stoppage time. What an utterly horrific 45 minutes of football it's been for the Belarus side!

Even at 1-0 down, BATE could not be written off, they have controlled the possession and had the better of the chances, only falling behind because of a defensive mix up. But since the second goal, they really have looked quite amateur, with most of Shakhtar's goals coming as a result of some seriously sloppy defending.

Let's have a look at some of the statistics from the opening 45 minutes. Shakhtar had twice as many shots as their opponents, with 12 efforts to BATE's six. Nine of the visitors' shots have been in target, while Pyatov has been called into action just twice. Donetsk have had 57% of the possession so far, while the only booking so far was picked up by Chernik in the penalty incident that led to the second goal.

The players are making their way back out ready for the second half, and it looks like the visitors will be making changes.

SUBS! In a somewhat bold move, the visitors are making all three changes at once. Douglas Costa, Fernando and Taison all make way, with Marlos, Fred and Bernard coming in.

SUBS! There are two changes from the hosts too as Gayduchik and Aleksivich replace Tubic and Likhtarovich.

KICKOFF! BATE get the second half underway.

BATE have been keeping possession inside their own half since the first half as all the substitutes take a few minutes to settle into the game. While it's unlikely that Shakhtar will be able to keep up their goal-scoring rate from the first half, BATE will have to defend much better to prevent the visitors from increasing their lead.

CHANCE! BATE seem keen to try and make a game of it in the second half. Karnitski gets forward and tries to make the most of Pyatov being off his line, but the keeper pulls off an acrobatic save to keep the hosts out.

OFFSIDE! Adriano is looking for his fifth of the night, but drifts offside while looking to pick up a Srna ball forward.

CHANCE! BATE are living dangerously at the back again as Teixeira threads the ball across the face of goal for Srna, but the Shakhtar captain's strike is punched clear by Chernik.

Adriano is still looking lively up front for the Ukrainian champions as Teixeira crosses in for the club's new record goalscorer, but the delivery is a little high, and Aleksievich manages to chest it back to the keeper.

As is always the danger when one side opens up a big lead over the other, the game is starting to fall a little flat now, as Shakhtar seem to be starting to coast, while BATE are all out of ideas. The hosts do win a free kick, but Volodko's curling delivery into the box flies straight out and into the stand behind the goal.

CHANCE! Nikolai Signevich tries an ambitious bicycle kick in from close range for the hosts, but he misses the ball. The hosts do manage to win a corner though.

This is now the longest spell that BATE have gone in this match without conceding, and they are starting to look a little more composed. The hosts have spent the majority of the last five minutes in the Shakhtar half, but they haven't really had a decent chance in that time aside from Signevich's attempt.

OFF THE POST! Bernard has the ball just outside the box, and mis-hits his shot. However, Adriano is there waiting to try and head in his fifth of the evening, but it's kept out by the post.

CHANCE! After a quiet spell from the visitors, Shakhtar put Chernik under pressure again as Srna launches a low drilled effort towards the goal, but the keeper spots the danger and makes the stop.

CHANCE! Shakhtar continue to test the BATE defence, with Viacheslav Shevchuk getting forward for a rare shot, but Chernik comes out the claim it. It looks like the Borisov keeper has picked up a knock while doing so though, so he could force the hosts to make their final change if he's unable to continue.

CHANCE! BATE try to catch their opponents out with a quick counter-attack once Chernik is back on his feet, but Pyatov is ready down the other end, and forces Khagush to fire wide.

SUB! The hosts are making their final change, but it's not Chernik going off. Nikolai Signevich is replaced by Dzmitry Baha for the final 15 minutes.

BATE are still seeking a consolation goal with Gordejchuk firing just wide before trying to set up Karniski a few moments later, but the midfielder tripped as he unleashed his shot, leaving Pyatov with an easy save.

CHANCE! Teixeira and Fred quickly team up down the other end as Shakhtar seek their seventh, but the latter slices his shot wide, before Teixeira fires into the side netting.

Mladenovic brings down Adriano in while defending a corner, giving the striker a chance for his fifth goal of the night.

Mladenovic protests furiously as he's penalised for a challenge on Adriano while awaiting Bernard's corner. It does seem a rather harsh decision, as there was barely any contact. Adriano scores, although the referee calls it back for an encroachment, making him take it again. He goes for the bottom left corner again, and gets the same result to score his fifth of the night. He's the second player in Champions League history to score five, the other being Lionel Messi!

There's a bit of a delay to the restart as the home fans are understandably not happy at the scoreline and have to be calmed by the stewards.

Having given away the second penalty, Mladenovic tries to make amends by setting up a chance for the home side, but Kucher was on hand to block it and clear the danger for the visitors.

CHANCE! Adriano has the ball in the box, but rather than trying to complete a double hat-trick, he flicks it on for Bernard, but Chernik manages to take the ball for BATE.

BOOKING! Luiz Adriano's evening is ever so slightly blighted by a yellow card after he catches Evgeni Yablosnki rather heavily.

BATE have a free kick as a result of the Adriano challenge, but Khagush's effort from long range if well off target. There are three minutes of stoppage time for the hosts to try and find a late consolation.

CHANCE! Srna fires the ball into the box for Fred to flick it on to Marlos, but his finish is scuffed straight at Chernik.

A humbling 90 minutes for BATE Borisov come to an end, while Luiz Adriano makes sure that he gets the match ball to mark his five-goal haul.

With Porto beating Athletic Bilbao in the other Group H game, this result moves Shakhtar up to second in the group, two points behind the Portuguese side.
