Micky Mellon bemoans 'lack of killer instinct' in Crewe Alexandra defeat

Micky Mellon admits that his side simply "were not good enough" when it came to putting the ball in the back of the net against Crewe Alexandra.

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon has put his side's defeat at the hands of Crewe Alexandra down to a lack of cutting edge in front of goal.

The Blues remain at the wrong end of the League One table after suffering their fourth home loss of the campaign on the weekend.

Mellon insists that he was more than happy with the number of openings Town created across the 90 minutes, but rued the lack of quality in the final third of the field.

"We had numerous opportunities to get back into the game and weren't good enough to put the ball in the net," he told the club's official website.

"When we got into dangerous areas, we maybe just lacked that killer instinct to find someone in the box. I couldn't fault the effort but we got into that final third, we weren't quite clinical enough."

Shrewsbury have scored just seven goals this term, which is the joint-third worst tally in the division.
