Southampton will reportedly return for Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes in the summer after failing to secure him in January.

Southampton are reportedly "hopeful" of securing a deal for Spartak Moscow forward Quincy Promes this summer after failing to acquire his services in January.

The 26-year-old was the top transfer target for the Saints in the winter transfer window but they failed with a final offer of £25m for the player as the deadline approached.

Reports have suggested that the bid was knocked back as the Russian Premier League side were unable to secure a suitable replacement in time but, according to the Daily Mail, Mauricio Pellegrino's side are confident that the deal will eventually happen in the summer months instead.

The newspaper says that the south coast club are happy to remain 'patient' and "they're not rushing to sign an alternative because they believe the 26-year-old is the right player for them".

Southampton ultimately made just one senior signing in January, the £19m capture of forward Guido Carrillo from Monaco.
