Southampton are reportedly in talks over a deal for Wolfsburg centre-back Maxence Lacroix.
Despite adding to his defensive ranks with the capture of Armel Bella-Kotchap, Ralph Hasenhuttl is seemingly keen to bring in another centre-back after Jack Stephens joined Bournemouth on loan.
Lacroix was linked with a number of top sides last year after helping Wolfsburg qualify for the Champions League, and he made 36 appearances for the club in all competitions in 2021-22.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Southampton have entered discussions to sign the 22-year-old, but it will be a difficult acquisition for the Saints to pull off on deadline day.
Nevertheless, Romano adds that Lacroix would welcome the chance to test himself in the Premier League, although he only signed a contract extension with Wolfsburg until 2025 last year.
The former Sochaux youngster has registered two goals and one assist from 77 appearances for the Bundesliga club in all tournaments and has represented France from Under-16 to Under-20 level.
As well as Lacroix, Southampton are rumoured to be keeping tabs on Marseille's Duje Caleta-Car, who has been pictured flying to the UK amid interest from the Saints, Aston Villa and West Ham United.
