Joaquin Caparros sets out Spain plans

Joaquin Caparros, who is expected to replace Vicente del Bosque as Spain boss, insists that he will lead La Roja back to the top of international football.

Joaquin Caparros has insisted that he can return Spain to the top of the world as the 60-year-old prepares to take charge of the national team.

Caparros has not yet been confirmed as the new boss of Spain, but it is widely thought that the experienced manager has been selected to replace Vicente del Bosque.

The former Granada head coach has set out his plans for La Roja and claimed that there is no need to change the style of football that the ex-world champions have played in recent years.

"The model of the national team is already defined. With it we have won and it's an example worldwide. It can't be changed. Success is to get the most out of our players. Denis Suarez, Inaki Williams, Marco Asensio, etc, also have that style. We shouldn't go against it," AS quotes Caparros as saying.

"Spanish coaches are, by their training, very prepared. I have almost 500 games in the Primera and I can boast of having worked in all the categories. Any coach trained here is prepared and we are hungry.

"There wasn't a better team at Euro 2016 than Spain. We played the best football, with Croatia and Germany. But mistakes are costly. We've seen physical, direct players, but not a lot of talent. The players I enjoyed the most were Spain's and those in Spain - Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann, Gareth Bale, Toni Kroos...".

Under Del Bosque, Spain won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, but they exited the 2014 World Cup in the group stages and only made the round of 16 at Euro 2016.
