Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo admits that he is upset but not shocked to be left out Vicente del Bosque's Spain squad for next month's Confederations Cup in Brazil.

Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo has admitted that he was unhappy but not surprised to be left out of Spain's squad for next month's Confederations Cup.

Negredo was omitted from Vicente del Bosque's provisional 26-man squad for the tournament, with Fernando Torres, David Villa and Roberto Soldado preferred as attacking options.

The 27-year-old has scored 21 times for Sevilla this season but feels that a disappointing season for Los Rojiblancos has affected his chances of representing the national side.

He is quoted by Football Espana as saying: "I am displeased, yet it makes me think that I must keep working and doing things right so as to re-enter.

"It has not been a good year for Sevilla and in the end we have not achieved our objective. In the end it is a group, if things go wrong in the whole group then it can have an influence, but hey, the players who are going have a lot of merit.

"Roberto [Soldado] is having a great season, [David] Villa whenever selected scores goals and Fernando [Torres] has many goals, important goals. In the end it is up to the coach and Fernando has finished the season well. I congratulate them all for making the cut, in particular to Jesus Navas."

Negredo will play his final match of the campaign this weekend as Sevilla look to secure a top-10 finish at home to Valencia.
