Harry Redknapp defends resting players against PAOK Salonika

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp defends his decision to field a young side against PAOK Salonika in the Europa League.

Harry Redknapp has defended his decision to rest key players for tonight's (Thursday) Europa League group match against PAOK Salonika.

Spurs are likely to play Andros Townsend, Jake Livermore, Giovani dos Santos and Yago Falque in Greece, while Gareth Bale, Scott Parker, Emmanuel Adebayor and Luka Modric have all not travelled.

Redknapp, however, says that he is simply making the most of an injury-hit squad, as well as having one eye on Sunday's visit of Liverpool in the League.

"It's not a case of prioritising a game, it's just [using] what I have got," he said.

"I couldn't bring players out here, play them on Thursday night and play the same group against Liverpool.

"If I get a few injuries I have no back-up. I have nine senior, very, very good players who are injured."

The White Hart Lane club are joined by Rubin Kazan and Shamrock Rovers in Group A of the competition.
