BOA chairman Lord Moynihan says that he is more relieved that Gareth Bale has recovered from his injury as opposed to his decision to snub Team GB.

British Olympic Association chairman Lord Moynihan has claimed that he "understands" the criticism directed at Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale but has refused to hit out against the Welshman.

The 23-year-old pulled out of Team GB for the London Games through injury but sparked controversy when he scored for Spurs during a 1-1 draw with Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday.

"I understand the response from some football fans who were hoping to see him play as part of Team GB," said Moynihan.

"My view is different. I welcome the fact that, actually, he has returned from injury earlier than anticipated."

Meanwhile, Stuart Pearce's side are due to go up against Senegal for their first competitive London 2012 clash this evening.
