Toby Alderweireld: 'We're confident ahead of Manchester United trip'

Toby Alderweireld insists that Tottenham Hotspur are full of confidence ahead of Saturday's Premier League opener with Manchester United.

Toby Alderweireld has insisted that Tottenham Hotspur will make the trip to Old Trafford full of confidence as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Manchester United.

Spurs finished just six points behind United last season, but a summer of investment in Louis van Gaal's squad means that the hosts will start the match as firm favourites on Saturday afternoon.

However, Alderweireld, who won at Old Trafford with Southampton back in January, believes that Mauricio Pochettino's side can adopt a positive approach as they look to begin the campaign with a victory.

"We have the opportunity to take a good first step – we are confident we can get a good result but we know it will be difficult," he told the club's website.

"They have brought in a lot of good players but we've had a good pre-season and trained hard so physically we are 100% and we want to get a good result to start the season.

"We have confidence in ourselves to play football. It's always difficult to play at Old Trafford but we have to believe in ourselves and how we want to play. If we do that, we can get a good result."

Spurs were handed a boost earlier this week when Hugo Lloris returned from a fractured wrist to put himself in contention to start against United.
