Tony Gale: 'Tottenham need to be careful what they say'

Tony Gale thinks that Tottenham should keep quiet because their bid for the Premier League title could "so easily come undone".

Former West Ham United defender Tony Gale believes that Tottenham Hotspur need to stop "blowing their trumpets" about their ability to snatch the Premier League title as there is a long way to go before the winning team is crowned.

The North London side are three points below title leaders Manchester City, equal to second-placed Manchester United, prompting Spurs playmaker Rafael van der Vaart to criticise Roberto Mancini's side's recent form.

While Tottenham have displayed an impressive run in the English league, Gale believes that Harry Redknapp and his team need to take a step back.

"I think Spurs have got to be very careful," Gale told Sky Sports News. "I think they're doing very well at the moment but when you start opening your mouth and you start crowing, that's when things come tumbling down.

"I think the one who's kept in the distance is Sir Alex [Ferguson]. Mancini's had a lot of publicity, Spurs have had a lot of publicity and rightfully because of the good things they've been doing on the pitch.

"They've never been in a race themselves. They won't really understand what it's like to be in that race until they're in it. I don't believe it's going to hot up for another eight games or so but they've got to get to that stage before they can start blowing their trumpets. [They're] probably the best attacking side in the Premier League at the moment but it can so easily come undone."

Tottenham take on Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow.
