Jan Vertonghen: 'Christian Benteke form is no surprise'

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen insists that he is not surprised Belgium teammate Christian Benteke is impressing at Aston Villa.

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen believes that Aston Villa made the right decision to sign striker Christian Benteke.

Vertonghen and Benteke are international teammates for Belgium and with the Villa striker having already netted eight times this season, the Spurs centre-back is not surprised that the £7m forward is proving to be a hit at Villa Park.

Vertonghen told reporters: "It doesn't surprise me that he has done well. He is very good in the air and he can score. He will be a very tough player to play against.

"He now feels the confidence of the team, the crowd and the manager.

"You could see that in the last two games for the national team. He was very good then and I think that Aston Villa made the right choice to sign him."

Both players are expected to feature when Villa host Spurs on Boxing Day.
