Former Spurs defender Jonathan Woodgate believes his old side can go close to winning the league this season.

Stoke defender Jonathan Woodgate believes his former club Tottenham are genuine title contenders this season.

Woodgate was part of the Potters side that ended Spurs' 11 game unbeaten run with a controversial 2-1 victory at the Britannia Stadium yesterday.

However, the 31-year-old still feels Harry Redknapp's side will push the Manchester clubs for Premier League success.

"I think they'll go close to winning the league, if not this year, then next year. They're a great side and I wish them all the luck in the world," he said.

The centre back spent three-and-a-half injury plagued years at White Hart Lane before leaving on a free transfer in the summer.
