Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool play out a subdued goalless draw in Baltimore.

Tottenham Hotspur continued their unbeaten start under Andre Villas-Boas with a goalless draw against Liverpool in Baltimore.

Spurs, who fielded the slightly more experienced starting XI, dominated possession in the opening period and should have taken the lead four minutes before half time.

Gareth Bale floated in a deep cross that Brad Jones unsuccessfully flapped at and Aaron Lennon then struck the post with the goal unguarded.

Both sides appeared to be subdued by the sweltering Maryland heat and the second half was played a very slow tempo.

Spurs continued to look the more likely side to score and came closest to doing so when William Gallas latched onto a Tom Huddlestone through ball. However, the Frenchman's clipped effort went narrowly over Peter Gulacsi's crossbar.

Villas-Boas's men will now face New York Red Bulls in midweek, while Liverpool's next action comes on August 2 when they begin their Europa League campaign with a trip to FC Gomel.
