Rafael van der Vaart's late goal has salvaged a point for Tottenham Hotspur as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Stoke City.

In a poor first half, the visitors made the first real breakthrough when Cameron Jerome put his shot wide.

It took Spurs some time before they tested Asmir Begovic in the Stoke goal, but the keeper was up to the task then he saved Rafael van der Vaart's drive.

Begovic was called into action again before the end of the first half when he tipped Louis Saha's fierce shot over the bar.

Gareth Bale nearly put Spurs in front after the break as his dipping effort beat Begovic but came back off the woodwork.

As Stoke defended resolutely, they took the lead with 15 minutes to play thanks to Cameron Jerome's tap in from Robert Huth's header.

Spurs desperately pushed for an equaliser and they were rewarded in the second minute of injury time when Van der Vaart headed home Bale's cross.
