Tottenham Hotspur round off their preparations for the 2024-25 campaign with a 3-2 home defeat to German giants Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich made it back-to-back wins over Tottenham Hotspur in quick succession, as the German giants beat Ange Postecoglou's side 3-2 in a pre-season fixture on Saturday evening.

The two teams met in Seoul earlier this month, with Bayern running out 2-1 winners, and Vincent Kompany's team were also victorious in the contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Dejan Kulusevski sent Spurs ahead inside the first minute in the capital, but Bayern responded with three goals of their own through Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Muller to take a 3-1 lead in the first period.

Kulusevski scored his second of the match in the 62nd minute, but there were no more goals in London, with Bayern edging a five-goal thriller on Saturday night.

Tottenham have now concluded their preparations for the 2024-25 campaign; Bayern, though, have another friendly against WSG Tirol on Tuesday before taking to the field in the German Cup on August 16.

Kane, Dier honoured by Tottenham before pre-season friendly

Both Harry Kane and Eric Dier received "commemorative gifts" from Tottenham club ambassador Ledley King before Saturday's contest, as the pair returned to Spurs for the first time since their departures.

Kane is Tottenham's all-time recording goalscorer with 280 goals, and he was introduced for the latter stages of the clash in London, while Dier entered the field as a half-time substitute.

"We have not previously had the opportunity to bid farewell to two players who have made such a significant contribution to our club in recent years," read a club statement ahead of the match.

Kane, who received a standing ovation, famously joined Bayern last year, while Dier made the move to the Allianz Arena on loan in January before the switch became permanent earlier this summer.

It was a special moment for both players, who were able to contribute to a victory for Bayern.

Solanke presented to Tottenham fans ahead of kickoff

New Spurs signings Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall were presented to the Spurs fans ahead of kickoff, with the former's move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium being confirmed on Saturday.

Postecoglou's side have paid Bournemouth an initial £55m for the centre-forward, but the deal could reach £65m, and it will be fascinating to see how he performs for Tottenham during the 2024-25 campaign.

"It's a magnificent club, a huge club with ambitions that match mine, so I'm delighted to start and meet all the boys and get started," Solanke told Spurs TV.

"What excites me most about the club is how ambitious it is. A great manager, great players and I feel like [Spurs] will definitely suit my style of play as well so I can't wait to get started and do my stuff on the pitch."

Solanke scored 21 times for Bournemouth last season, and he will certainly be under pressure to hit the ground running despite the fact that Kulusevski came up with a brace on Saturday.

Kulusevski puts in man-of-the-match performance

Kulusevski netted twice in the friendly, including one inside the first 25 seconds, before he struck again in the 62nd minute.

The 24-year-old was replaced soon after, but it will go down as a brilliant performance from the attacker, who will now be expecting to start against Leicester City in the team's Premier League opener next weekend.

Spurs struggled defensively in the first half, though, with Upamecano, Gnabry and Muller registering to make it 3-1 to the Munich giants, and Tottenham were ultimately unable to find a third in the latter stages.

What is next for Tottenham and Bayern?

Tottenham have now concluded their pre-season, with all of the focus switching to their 2024-25 Premier League opener against newly-promoted Leicester on August 19.

Solanke is in line for a debut, and it will be interesting to see how the North London outfit perform in their second season under the management of Postecoglou.

Bayern, on the other end, will take on WSG Tirol in their final pre-season friendly on Tuesday, before tackling Ulm in the German Cup on August 16.

Kompany's side will then open their Bundesliga campaign against Wolfsburg on August 25, and it was noticeable that neither Matthijs de Ligt nor Noussair Mazraoui featured against Tottenham, with the pair on the verge of joining Manchester United.
