Brentford offer Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen a long-term contract in an effort to keep him at the club this summer, according to a report.

Brentford have offered midfielder Christian Eriksen a long-term contract in an effort to keep him at the club this summer, according to a report.

The 30-year-old sees his contract expire in West London at the end of June, after initially signing for Thomas Frank's side on a six-month deal back in January following his release from Inter Milan.

Former club Tottenham Hotspur have been amongst several sides heavily linked with an interest in acquiring the Dane on a free transfer in the coming weeks.

However, in an effort to extend his stay at the club, the Bees have been in talks with Eriksen and his representatives for several weeks, and have now offered the midfielder a "long-term" deal, according to a report from Sky Sports News.

The report outlines how Eriksen is said to be settled in London and comfortable at Brentford, but also wishes to compete in the Champions League again before his career comes to an end, something that Spurs are able to offer next season after securing a fourth-placed finish under Antonio Conte.

After recovering from a cardiac arrest suffered with Denmark at the 2020 European Championships last summer, Inter were forced to let Eriksen leave the club owing to Serie A's rules prohibiting the midfielder from playing after having a defibrillator fitted.

Since making the move to Brentford midway through the 2021-22 campaign, Eriksen helped steer the newly-promoted outfit to a comfortable 13th-placed finish in their debut Premier League season, contributing one goal and four assists in 11 appearances.
