Wolfsburg's Micky van de Ven attends Tottenham Hotspur's 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk ahead of his £43m move to the Lilywhites.

Wolfsburg centre-back Micky van de Ven was seen in attendance at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday ahead of his imminent switch to North London.

The Lilywhites are understood to have agreed a fee of around €50m (£43.3m) for the 22-year-old, who has agreed to a five-year deal with Ange Postecoglou's side.

Van de Ven is believed to have undergone his medical this weekend, and the Netherlands Under-21 international will likely be unveiled by his new club at some point this week.

Tottenham played their first home game of the Postecoglou era on Sunday, thumping Ukrainian giants Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1 thanks to four Harry Kane strikes and a Dane Scarlett goal.

Van de Ven was pictured in the English capital to watch his new team in action, although Postecoglou insisted that it was still not the time to talk about the defender while his signing remains unofficial.

"Well like you said it hasn't been done yet so it's not right for me to talk about but there's no doubt we need some bolstering in that central defensive area. We're looking for players that can play the kind of football we want," Postecoglou told the press after the game.

"We need defenders who are going to be able to work in an aggressive formation, be able to defend really well one vs one and the space in behind. Hopefully we'll get one or two done in the next couple of days to bolster us in that area."

Van de Ven will depart Wolfsburg following a successful two-year period in Germany, during which he has scored one goal and set up three more in 41 matches.

The 6ft 4in defender struggled for minutes during his debut campaign in 2021-22 after leaving Volendam, but he blossomed into a key player under Niko Kovac last term, starting 33 Bundesliga games.

Van de Ven also represented the Netherlands at the recent Under-21 European Championships, and he is capable of playing as a left-back as well as in the heart of defence, adding more versatility to the Lilywhites backline.

Spurs have already added one new defender to their ranks this summer, signing 18-year-old Ashley Phillips from Blackburn Rovers for a mere £2m due to a release clause in his Ewood Park contract.

However, Phillips is not expected to immediately become a regular starter under Postecoglou, who is thought to want a third central acquisition once Van de Ven's arrival is sealed.

Tottenham could dip back into the Bundesliga market for Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba, but they have supposedly been quoted £50m to sign the Burkina Faso international.

The likes of Davinson Sanchez, Joe Rodon and Japhet Tanganga could be offloaded to make room for Tapsoba, while Eric Dier is also in the final year of his contract in North London.

At the other end of the field, Rosario Central striker Alejo Veliz has confirmed that his move to Tottenham is "imminent" as Bayern Munich continue to pursue a deal for Harry Kane.
