Newcastle United are prepared to rival Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Southampton left-back Ryan Bertrand, according to a report.
The England international is rumoured to be among Mauricio Pochettino's top targets ahead of next season, seen as the ideal man to fill the void expected to be left by Danny Rose.
Bertrand, valued at around £25m by the struggling Saints, is also understood to be a target for newly-promoted side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A report in The Express suggests that Newcastle are the latest side to have registered an interest in the 28-year-old, who is keen to quit Southampton regardless of whether they beat the drop.
Toon boss Rafael Benitez is hoping to have the backing of owner Mike Ashley this summer, with a proposed takeover of the club unlikely to go through before next season.
