Report: Newcastle United give up on deals for Saido Berahino, Andros Townsend

Newcastle United are reportedly ready to pull the plug on potential deals for Saido Berahino and Andros Townsend after growing frustrated in negotiations.

Newcastle United have reportedly pulled the plug on potential deals to sign English duo Saido Berahino and Andros Townsend from West Bromwich Albion and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

According to The Telegraph, Newcastle have grown frustrated with their fellow Premier League clubs over the lack of progress that has been made during negotiations this month.

The Magpies are said to be keen to spend more money in the January transfer window following last week's arrivals of Jonjo Shelvey and Henri Saivet so that they can maintain their top-flight status.

A striker is thought to be Steve McClaren's number-one priority this month, with Alexandre Pato and Alexandre Lacazette among those linked with possible moves to St James' Park.
