Stoke City midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is wanted by Premier League pair Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton, according to a report.

Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton are both reportedly willing to pay the £12m fee required to trigger Stoke City midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri's release clause.

The Switzerland international confirmed at the weekend that he intends to leave the bet365 Stadium this summer following the Potters' relegation to the Championship.

Shaqiri would prefer a Premier League move and is available for a cut-price sum, which The Mirror suggests has made him a wanted man.

Southampton, managed by former Stoke boss Mark Hughes, and Champions League participants Tottenham are both said to be in the running to sign the 26-year-old.

A deal is unlikely to go through until July, however, as Shaqiri - the scorer of eight goals in 36 league games this term - is preparing for the World Cup finals with Switzerland.
