Spurs transfer news: Lens midfielder on radar ahead of 2025?

Tottenham Hotspur are allegedly contemplating whether to make an approach for a Lens midfielder during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur have allegedly identified Lens midfielder Andy Diouf as a potential January transfer target.

Ange Postecoglou's side have been inconsistent for a number of months during 2024-25, combining eye-catching victories with defeats against some of the smaller teams in the Premier League.

Spurs ended a run of three games without success in the top flight by thrashing Southampton by a 5-0 scoreline on Sunday evening, ensuring that they ended the evening in 10th position in the table.

Nevertheless, it remains plausible that Postecoglou could attempt to strengthen in several areas of the pitch next month.

Midfield reinforcements?

According to GIVEMESPORT, Spurs have taken an interest in potentially signing Diouf when the transfer market reopens.

The 21-year-old has made 12 starts and three substitute outings in Ligue 1 this campaign, helping Lens sit in seventh position in the table.

Spurs allegedly view Diouf as someone who has the ideal profile to provide both quality and cover in the engine room.

Diouf is said to have made an impact when scouts watched him in August, although it has now been nearly two months since he completed 90 minutes in France's top flight.

Although the report acknowledges that Spurs are likely to prioritise a new centre-back over any other position, it is suggested that signing a central midfielder remains a possibility.

Is a January approach realistic?

Postecoglou already has Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Sarr, James Maddison, Lucas Bergvall and Dejan Kulusevski as his options in that area of the pitch.

Archie Gray is another alternative, yet the England Under-21 international is currently required to deputise in the middle of the defence.

Unless a loan move for Bergvall, which is unlikely, is found, there appears to be little value in Spurs spending a sizeable fee on another midfielder at this stage.

Furthermore, Diouf has a contract at Lens until 2028, helping them retain a firm stance over his future for the time being.
