Jan Vertonghen happy at Tottenham Hotspur

Jan Vertonghen cools the speculation linking him with a move away from Spurs by claiming that he is happy at the club.

Jan Vertonghen has played down rumours linking him with a switch away from White Hart Lane by insisting that he is happy at Tottenham Hotspur.

Speculation is rife that the defender would seek a move away from North London if Frank de Boer - who he played under at Ajax - is not named as Tim Sherwood's successor.

However, the Belgium international, who is expected to feature in next month's World Cup, says that his future at Tottenham does not hinge on who chairman Daniel Levy names as the club's new manager.

"I've got a couple more years at Tottenham and I'm happy, and I want to stay there, so it doesn't matter who the manager will be," he told Sky Sports News.

"He [de Boer] is a good manager but there are other good managers as well so, again, the chairman will make a good decision."

Asked whether or not he could showcase his abilities to prospective suitors during the World Cup, Vertonghen added: "I don't think that is one for us because we all play for nice teams already and we just want to do something nice for Belgium, not for ourselves."

The 27-year-old's Spurs contract expires in 2016.
