Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane says that Welsh attacker Gareth Bale has been "spectacular" for the Spanish club.

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has said that Gareth Bale has been "spectacular" for the Spanish giants as the Wales international closes in on a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Neither Spurs nor Madrid have officially confirmed a deal, but the experienced attacker is said to be on the verge of re-joining the Premier League club on an initial loan.

Zidane's relationship with the 31-year-old is believed to have completely broken down last season, but the Frenchman insisted that he has 'never had any problems' with the Welshman.

"I haven't spoken with Bale. I know what he has done in this team. He has been spectacular for this team, nobody can say otherwise. There are negotiations. If he moves, we only wish him well," Zidane told reporters.

"I've not had any problems with Gareth. The situation is not firm, it's not done, I cannot say more. Gareth is a our player for the moment and the issue is still to be closed."

Bale joined Madrid from Tottenham in 2013 and has made 251 appearances for the Spanish giants in all competitions, scoring 105 times in the process.

Meanwhile, the former Southampton youngster has won two La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey and four Champions League crowns during his time at the Bernabeu.
