Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland undergoes second round of surgery

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland confirms that he has had a second round of surgery on his right ankle and will embark on more rehabilitation.

Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland has had a second round of surgery on his right ankle.

The 23-year-old fractured his ankle playing for England in a friendly against Germany on March 26 and had the first round of surgery in the same month.

Butland attempted to return to action earlier in the season but has since aborted this to undergo further scans with another specialist.

Despite being disappointed at having to remain out of action, Butland confirmed that the root of the problem has finally been discovered and he is now embarking on another schedule of rehabilitation.

"Happy to be home after spending a week away seeing another specialist, but grateful we were able to get to the bottom of my setbacks," he posted on Instagram.

"Although wanting to avoid surgery it was necessary to do so to get me back playing the game I love.

"It's been a tough and frustrating year but I can't thank everyone enough for their constant support. I'm as positive as ever and I can't wait to be back."

Butland was expected to play for the Potters' Under-23 side earlier this month.
