Stoke City assistant boss Dave Kemp urges clarity on fouls

Stoke City assistant boss Dave Kemp believes that inconsistency from referees is damaging the game.

Stoke City assistant manager Dave Kemp believes that the harsh stance on fouls within the game is beginning to "ruin" football.

The coach's comments come following the red card of Stoke's Rory Delap during the Potters' 2-0 win over Crawley Town in the FA Cup fifth round yesterday.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis fumed at fourth official Lee Probert following Delap's sending off, which was deemed a reckless challenge on Crawley's David Hunt.

"[Rory Delap's red card was] ridiculous," Kemp told talkSPORT. "I've got to say, honestly, there was a time in this country where everybody knew what a foul was and what offside was.

"I think [now] it changes from game-to-game, week-to-week. I don't think anybody knows anymore. Someone somewhere is trying to come up with some rules for the game that no-one really understands.

"We've got to be careful here, we're going to ruin what is a great game in this country. If you make it touch tackling, like touch rugby where no-one is allowed to do anything, we're going to end up with a very boring game."

Pulis could face a charge from the Football Association following his outburst towards Probert.
