Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant has been arrested by police for allegedly assaulting a woman in a nightclub.
This latest incident is the second in three days for the 29-year-old, who was charged with drink-driving after crashing his white BMW into a silver Audi last weekend.
The former Liverpool player was detained by Greater Manchester police on suspicion of assault following an altercation with a woman, who is believed to be a friend of his partner.
A spokesman for the police said: "At approximately 3.30am a woman was assaulted at a nightclub on Barton Arcade, Manchester City Centre. A 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of section 47 assault. He has been bailed pending further inquiries."
The alleged assault is believed to have taken place just hours before the motoring incident.
