Tony Pulis wants tennis-style challenge system

Stoke manager Tony Pulis wants to implement a tennis-style challenge system so that managers can have a decision instantly reviewed.

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has said that he wants a challenge system, similar to those used in tennis and cricket, to be implemented in football.

The system would allow managers to ask for a decision to be instantly reviewed by an official in a third umpire role.

Managers would be restricted to one challenge in each half – even if their appeal is successful.

"We saw certain decisions last weekend where a lot of criticism could have been saved if there had been an opportunity for a manager to make a challenge," Pulis said.

"If it is proved to be right it takes the pressure off the referee, as it does in cricket, tennis and rugby.

"It would take 30 seconds and you could have it on the big screen. It would add to the excitement, as it has in tennis, cricket and rugby."

The 56-year-old was recently fined £10,000 by the FA for comments he made relating to refereeing.
