Dick Advocaat open to extended Sunderland stay

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat reveals that he could stay at the club beyond when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has refused to rule out staying on for another season at the club.

The Dutchman was appointed earlier this year when he replaced Gus Poyet at the Stadium of Light and successfully kept the Black Cats in the Premier League.

The 67-year-old was only signed until the end of the season, but performed a U-turn to remain at the club for the 2015-16 campaign.

However, Advocaat has now suggested that he could remain beyond the end of the season if his side progress under his tenure.

He told reporters: "I'm not allowed to say I want to stay, I don't want to talk about myself. Let's wait and see.

"We've got good people here, good staff, people who know the game, who played at a high level and they know the way I work.

"We still have a year to go and, hopefully, we can make some small steps in that time. Let's wait until the end of the season, but I don't rule it out, you never know."

Sunderland face Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League clash later today.
